Rosie Perez
Rosie Perez was born Rosa Maria Perez on September 6, 1964. She is an American actress. Her breakout moment came from her performance as Tina in the movie Do the Right Thing (1989), then followed by White Men Can't Jump (1992). Perez's performance in Fearless (1993) resulted in her nominations for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress, among other accolades. It Could Happen to You (1994), The Road to El Dorado ((2000), Pineapple Express (2008) and Birds of Prey (2010) are her main parts in films.
Perez earned three Primetime Emmy Award nominations for In Living Color (1990-1994) and another Emmy nomination for her work in The Flight Attendant (2020-present). She has been in stage plays on Broadway like The Ritz, Frankie and Johnny in the Clair de Lune, and Fish in the Dark. In the 18th season of the show, she was also the co-host of ABC's talk show The View.
Childhood and early life
Perez was born on 6 September, 1964, in Brooklyn to Lydia Perez (a merchant mariner seaman) and Ismael Serano (a Bushwick neighborhood resident). Perez's mother Lydia Fontanez y Reyes was born in Humacao (Puerto Rico) on the 13th of October 1939. Her father came from Aguadilla in Puerto Rico. Arturo Perez was her mother's 20-year-old husband. Her mother had already had five children before she gave birth to Rosie after an affair with Serrano. Perez was born in the now-closed Greenpoint Hospital located in Brooklyn's Greenpoint neighborhood.
Perez is one of the ten children that her mother borne. Rosie as well as her siblings were raised in Bushwick, while their mother was held up for indefinite times. Her mother was in jail when she gave birth to her youngest child. After being raised by an aunt, she was placed in group homes and foster care. She was often separated from her brothers. She was moved to a group foster home and lived in foster care in New York and Peekskill until age eight. When she reached the age of 12 her legal status was that of as a ward of New York. Aunt and mother visited her often, and her father had a few times tried to get custody of her.
